Take several of the nearby life regeneration nodes on the tree to stay alive with the self damage from Righteous Fire. The fire damage over time multiplier nodes on the tree and Mana Masteries are also very important because this is a fire damage over time build that stacks mana for damage.
Duration scaling: Linking RF with the support gems Lifetap Support or Arcane Surge Support causes RF to gain a duration effect, allowing the skill to be supported by Swift Affliction Support and Less Duration Support, which normally would not support it.
Life Degeneration Effect: While this skill is active, the player and surrounding enemies will take fire degeneration damage (damage over time). This damage can be mitigated with fire resistance for both the player and surrounding enemies.

Righteous Fire is a spell that applies a buff on the player, rapidly burning the player and nearby enemies. The damage it deals scales with your Life and Energy Shield amount. It also grants more spell damage to the user while active.
RF does not "hit", so it cannot ignite anyway. Although RF is a spell, its damage is a "de-buff" not spell damage. Elemental focus, Increased Burning damage, and Concentrated Effect are the best supports for RF.
On-hit effects: The damage you do to yourself when Using Vaal Righteous Fire is not considered a hit on yourself. Thus it will not proc any when-hit effects such as the trigger from the Berserker's Cloaked in Savagery which requires taking a savage hit.
(Shield) Rise of the Phoenix - +5% to your Maximum Fire Resistance is a lot and it's one of the most important stats. All the other Stats are good too, it adds a lot of Maximum Life and Elemental Resistances. (Shield) Aegis Aurora - if you're using Melding of the Flesh, it's recommended to use this Shield.
The exact number is 35,791,394, or (231 - 1) / 60, or the damage cap divided by 60 seconds in a minute (as damage over time is internally calculated per minute instead of per second).
Righteous Fire does not hit, so it doe not scale off added flat damage of any type. The ways you scale it generally are AoE damage, Damage over Time (/multi?), Increased Damage, Burning damage and Fire Damage. As it doesn't hit, you also can't take Reflected damage from it.
With Unaffected by Shock, the character will be shocked, but the shock debuff will not modify damage taken. Because shock from a ground effect has no duration, shocked ground cannot be avoided through 100% reduced duration of ailments.
Maximum shock effect is capped at 50%. Increases to effect of shock/ailments/etc and don't bypass that cap, they just make it easier to reach it. You need to increase the Maximum Effect of Shock, such as found on Lightning Mastery nodes, to go beyond that 50%.
Levelling. Levelling trees & Gem setups can be found in the Path Of Building link, levelling will heavily depend on whether we're league starting or have access to Twink gear. Twink gear will allow us to run Righteous Fire earlier but here we'll focus on running it around level 20. Flame Wall we use that as well.
