🙋♀️ 𝗪𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗡 𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗘𝗖𝗛 | This time we share the unique journey and challenges of Melek Akın, UX Designer at ORTEC. When entering the tech sector and being one of the few women, below 30, and from a different cultural background, she found it quite challenging to find her way. Melek’s story is a great example of finding self-belief.𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀:⭐️ 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: "My journey took a transformative turn when I found a mentor within ORTEC. She is an experienced woman in tech who recognized the potential in my unique background and perspective. Her belief in me became the catalyst for my own self-belief,” Melek says.✖ 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 - 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗶𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻: As a UX designer, Melek is surprised to see a great amount of (hidden) gender bias in product design. “Some design totally forget about women,” she says. An example she shares: “Can you believe that female drivers are 47% more likely to be seriously injured in a car crash, and 17% more likely to die!? This all has to do with how the car is designed – and for whom.”This & more in her personal story. Get inspired: https://lnkd.in/ex3EMAnY___With ‘𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗘𝗖’𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵’ series, we aim to inspire women to enter the tech industry. About one third of our workforce identifies as female, and we would like to increase this number. Join our journey: https://lnkd.in/eHGYvVTY#WomeninTech #Tech #LifeatORTEC #Diversity #Inclusion

The journey of being a UX professional isn’t perfect. As much as we’d all love to be at amazing companies where leadership understands the value of UX, research is incorporated early and often, and there’s processes established that allow UX professionals to thrive, it’s rare when all these pieces actually manage to come together. Yet where there’s low UX maturity, there’s also opportunities to establish a thriving UX culture from the ground up, drive impact cross functionally, and to take your career to the next level.Whether the thought of maturing UX at a company is intimidating or exciting to you, Out in Tech is here to arm you with the knowledge and support you’ll need to thrive! I'll be hosting our“Navigating Roles with Low UX Maturity”talk next week onThurs, April 11th at 5pm PT / 8pm ET! Our amazing panel will consist of:- Harrison Wheeler, Director of Product Design at LinkedIn- Rachana Ranade, UX Research Lead at Google- Michael Dimaano, Product Design Lead at Ford- Andrea C., Senior Staff UX Researcher at AchieveWe’ll be navigating topics like how to build cross-functional support, establishing impactful UX processes, and tips on evaluating the UX maturity of a company. Let’s turn challenges into opportunities and build the type of UX cultures we’ve all been dreaming of!#uxculture #uxdesign #productdesign
